| This picture of Young's Scouts was taken May
1899 in Manila. #10 is John Baxter Kinne of the 1st North Dakota
Volunteers. No's 4,5, and 11 are from the 4th U.S. Cavalry (dismounted).
The rest of the men are from the 1st North Dakota and 2nd Oregon
regiments. The men had just come off a 35-day campaign in central Luzon.
The two rifles leaning in the window represent two of their number who
were lost in action: Chief Scout William H. Young and Corporal James
Harrington. Any help identifying these men will be much appreciated, as
I am writing about Young's Scouts in my book-in-progress, The Boys. |
